Midwest Explosion Boys Director Announcement: Tony Overton

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Tony Overton as the new Boys Director of the Midwest Explosion! Tony brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and a coach, and we are confident in his ability to further elevate our program. The Jay Community Center is excited to see the positive impact Tony will have on our players and community.

Tony Overton's Bio

Personal Life:

• Married to Tammy for 31 years

• Father to two children: Xaiven (daughter, 30) and Justus (JJ) (son, 27)

• 1989 graduate of Jay County High School

• 1993 graduate of Stetson University in Deland, FL (Bachelor's in Sociology)

High School Playing Career:

• All Olympic Conference selection

• Recognized as one of the top 20 seniors in Indiana

• One of only two male basketball players from his high school to play Division I basketball

• High school rival and AAU teammate of current Purdue Coach Matt Painter

College Playing Career:

• Played under NCAA Hall of Fame Coach Glenn Wilkes at Stetson University

• Led the team in free throw and three-point percentages during the '91-'92 season

• Received the "Best Effort" award for the '92-'93 season

• Competed with or against over 50 NBA players, including Shaquille O'Neal, Luc Longley, and Antonio Davis

Coaching Experience:

• 27 years of coaching experience at various levels, including:

  • Instructional, Elementary, Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Assistant roles

  • Current Head Varsity Coach at Ansonia High School, Ohio

  • Assistant Coach at Wright State Lake Campus (NCCAA/NAIA) for one year

His extensive network of college coaches and deep understanding of player development make him an invaluable asset in the recruiting process. Tony is dedicated to helping each player find their unique path to success, both on and off the court. His passion and commitment to personal and athletic growth ensure that every player under his guidance will have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
